The final results are in for United Way of Larimer County's annual Make A Difference Week events. During the week-long event, 3,003 volunteers completed 120 volunteer service projects throughout Larimer County. 939 of those volunteers were youth, and 66 businesses participated in volunteer projects. In total, volunteers provided 12,012 hours of service.
Make A Difference Day, a nation-wide day of doing good, is a week-long event in Larimer County because of its popularity and continued success. This year, United Way reports an 11% increase in volunteers from 2012 Make A Difference Week activities in Larimer County.
“We are so grateful to all of the community members, businesses, families, and groups that came together to make United Way of Larimer County's 2013 Make A Difference Week such a success,” said Gordan Thibedeau, President & CEO of United Way of Larimer County. “We look forward to next year's Make A Difference Week and making an even bigger impact in Larimer County by mobilizing the caring power of our community.”
The estimated value for one hour of volunteer service is $22.14, according to the Corporation for National and Community Service. When translated into dollar impact, 2013 Make A Difference Week volunteers in Larimer County invested $265,946 back into the community.
56 nonprofit organizations in Larimer County hosted volunteer projects throughout the week. Projects included a wide range of activities, from harvesting fresh produce from community gardens, to fixing up playgrounds, to raking a neighbor's leaves. There were service projects for people of all ages, and varying skill levels.
