My name is Vanessa and I have two children, a five year old girl, and a three year old boy. We are a busy family, but when we have free time we play soccer, go to car shows or watch movies. Princess movies are a common theme in our household; however, Toy Story is a definite favorite.
I will graduate from the University of Northern Colorado in December 2015 with a degree in Sociology. After that, I am planning on going to grad school to study Social Work.
Before I returned to school, I was working full time, which kept me very busy. When my son was diagnosed with special needs, I realized I was not going to be able to work full time while also giving my son the care and support he needs.
With the help of WomenGive, I was able to return to school and take online classes, which allowed me to continue my education while still taking care of my children. My son's special needs inspired me to study sociology, and I'm excited to become a social worker after I graduate.
I am so thankful for the WomenGive scholarship program because it has allowed me to focus on my classes and build future goals. The opportunity to be in school and still be able to take care of my children has been a huge blessing and has really impacted my life. The WomenGive scholarship program has showed me how United Way and WomenGive have worked to help improve the lives of women and all people in the community. They have shown me that as I continue my education in Sociology and in Social Work, I too can help people through difficult situations. As a social worker, I hope to be a resource for people in need and make a difference in their lives in the way that WomenGive has made a difference in mine.
My family and my education are two very important things to me and I am so thankful to have the support of WomenGive.
