Do you make less than $60K a year? Are you over 60 years old? Are you home bound or do you have special needs?
If you said yes to any of those questions, you could be eligible for free tax preparation with no strings attached. Even if you don't qualify, you likely know someone who can benefit from this free, money-saving service.
Every year, Make Change NoCo, as well as AARP and the Piton Foundation, provide free tax prep through VITA/TCE (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance/Tax Counseling for the Elderly) volunteers right here in Larimer County.
A recent survey states that nearly three quarters of Americans (72 percent) are unaware that they qualify for free tax assistance. And about a third of the people surveyed (29 percent) said they pay to have their taxes done.
By utilizing trained, IRS certified volunteers, Make Change NoCo is working to help lower income households keep their hard earned money instead of paying unnecessary fees and making sure they receive any eligibile tax credits. That’s money that can go towards bills, savings, or that can help boost the economy.
The VITA/TCE tax preparation sites can prepare Forms 1040 and 1040NR, Schedules A, B, C-EZ, D, EIC, R, and some E, Form 2441 (Child and Dependent Care Expenses), Form 8863 (Education Credits), and Form 8812 (Child Tax Credit) among others.
