Tell us a little bit about yourself
I am a Fort Collins native. That’s right, I was born and raised in Fort Collins, we natives are few and far between! My husband, Michael and I have been married for 2 ½ years. Our daughter, Tristan, was born in April 2015. We are first time parents and are enjoying every minute! I’ve been working for The Coloradoan for 11 years and am currently a Key Accounts Sales Executive, specializing in marketing solutions geared towards healthcare, higher education and local government accounts.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about making sure children and families in Larimer County have necessities. Having grown up as a child with a single parent, I know first-hand the struggles a family can face and know what it’s like to have the unthinkable happen at any time that derails everything that is ‘normal’. In situations like these, families and their children deserve a chance. They deserve shelter, food and clean clothes; their children deserve a fair chance in school. I volunteer as often as I can to help with clothing and school supply drives, as well as food drives during the holidays.
What are your hobbies?
Spending time with my family has been a hobby of mine. The Poudre River is right in our backyard so you can often find us and our family dog, Hans, out enjoying the bike trails and the river. We love being outdoors and spending quality time together. I also bake a mean pineapple upside down cake and enjoy spending time in the kitchen.
What is your dream for Larimer County?
My dream for Larimer County is to see a dramatic decrease in the poverty rate. I would love to know and see at least 75% of Larimer County residents living ABOVE the poverty line and being able to enjoy the everyday joys of living in Fort Collins instead of constantly struggling just to make it. I want to be able to drive down the streets and not see families having to beg for help and I want to see children excelling in school. More than anything, I want to be able to influence the change that is so desperately needed in our community.
How long have you been a United Way donor?
I’ve been a United Way donor since 2005.
Why do you choose to support your community through United Way?
Sometimes giving can be a challenge. There are so many causes that one could give to that it often becomes challenging to pick just one. I enjoy supporting Larimer County through UWLC because UWLC makes it easy for me to give. The Community Impact Fund makes it easy for me as a donor to know that my donations are being distributed throughout Larimer County and making a positive impact for many organizations. UWLC makes it easy for me to donate my time by keeping me up to date with volunteer opportunities and it helps me round out my monetary donations with volunteer time.
Thanks to Sara and thousands of donors like her, we are helping local children and families create a future filled with promise and opportunity.
