I'm a wife, mother of two boys, and a lawyer. I grew up on a farm outside a small town in Iowa, went to college in Indiana (Go Irish!), law school in North Carolina (Go Blue Devils!), and then spent the first 12 years of my career in Atlanta, where my husband grew up. After taking annual vacations to Colorado for years, I got a job as in house counsel for Poudre Valley Health System. We moved our family to northern Colorado in December of 2010. We could not be happier about our decision to move and raise our boys in northern Colorado, and we do our best to give talent, time, and treasure to continue to make northern Colorado a special place for all who live here!
I attended United Way's annual WomenGive membership lunch at the invitation of a friend approximately four years ago, and I immediately knew that I had to join and help the cause! Prior to moving to Colorado, when my boys were 4 and 2 years old, we were paying $2,800/month for daycare in Atlanta. It was outrageous! But, even here in northern Colorado, we paid as much as $1,700/month for daycare for our two boys. To think that a single parent with a high school education would need somewhere close to $20,000/year to cover daycare for two children seems like an insurmountable burden. WomenGive is a way for me to directly assist those single moms in obtaining self-sufficiency while knowing that their children are in a safe and educational environment!
I think that I've been a member for 4 years now.
WomenGive is an example of the huge things that a group of motivated women can accomplish! There is nothing better than women helping women, and WomenGive has grown from a small group of game-changers motivated to help other women to an organization that just attracted 1,000 women to its annual membership luncheon! WomenGive has the potential to, some day, meet the childcare subsidy needs for all Larimer County single moms seeking to achieve self-sufficiency!
If you are looking for a non-profit program that will allow you to have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of women and children in our community, then you need to join WomenGive!
Gathering with my other WomenGive members to combine our time, treasure, and talent to give a hand up to other women in our community whose hard work and dedication has not yet gotten them to self sufficiency.
