Ruth and I have lived in Fort Collins for 46 yearsfollowing mydischarge from the Air Force. Ipracticed law for 45 of those years, but I recently become a 'recovering' lawyer. Ruth was, and still is, a homemaker and community volunteer. We havethree children, Jim (an M.D. at the University of Iowa Medical School), Meg (a past United Way board president) and Dan. Both Meg and Dan practice law with myold firm, Fischer, Brown, Bartlett & Gunn, P.C. Two daughters-in-law and five grandchildren also enrich our lives.
I met Ruth at the University of North Dakota and support and root for the University's seven-time national champion hockey team. We've attended many 'Frozen Fours' over the years. Weappreciate the positive impact that C.S.U. has on Larimer County and enjoy the benefits of living in a college town.We also like to spend time at ourriverside cabin on the Pingree Park road.
As a retired lawyer, I am still interested in doing what Ican to make sure that everyone in our community gets an equal chance and a fair shake. I am a charter member of the Fort Collins Sertoma Club and enjoy working with other members on service projects. I have also been a director of the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District for the past 23 years because of myinterest and concern that this area has an adequate supply of water. Ruth was involved with ourchildren'sactivities when they were growing up and now does much of her volunteering through her church and its outreach programs. She's still an avid bicycle rider.
Ruth and Ihave been regular donors to United Way for many decades because of the effective and responsible way that United Way mobilizes community resources to address community needs and to improve lives. Wehave served on United Way committees, andI ama past board member and campaign chair. Weknow that United Way makes Larimer County a better place for all of us and gladly support it.
