I am a Colorado native, growing up in Brighton, north of Denver. I came to Fort Collins in 2000 to attend CSU, and like so many others I fell in love with the community and have been here ever since. My family is the most important and biggest part of my life including my awesome wife, Tara, my two daughters, Fynn and Eavie, and our two miniature schnauzers, Theo and Ella. I work as an Environmental Planner for the Natural Areas Department of the City of Fort Collins so I get to help manage and protect open spaces important to and funded by the citizens of Larimer County on a daily basis.
What are you passionate about?
I'm passionate about my family. I'm also very passionate about nature, the outdoors and conservation, and I've made that passion my life's work. I'm also passionate about doing my small part to affect positive change in my home and my community. That is why I support United Way's mission and work each year to help make the City campaignbetter and better.
What are your hobbies?
Homebrewing, gardening, home improvement projects, and traveling when we get the chance.
What do you love most about Larimer County?
I love the diversity. I can visit urban and rural areas. I can quickly access the mountains or the plains. There are people with a variety of ideas and values which is invigorating. I also love the friendliness of the people. I've had people that have come from other parts of the country comment that they are surprised at how friendly people are around here. I love that!
How long have you been a United Way donor?
I think about eight years or so, maybe longer. I used to just throw a few bucks a paycheck into the campaign, but I've gotten more and more involved over the years as I've learned more about United Way's mission and the unique and essential role United Way serves the community. I am now the co-chair for the City of Fort Collins government's campaign and we work to do our part to Give, Advocate, and Volunteer to make our community a better place.
Why do you choose to support your community through United Way?
I've been very blessed in my life, but have also experienced very challenging times where we only got through it from help from others. I strongly believe that we all have a responsibility to take care of each other, that is what a true community does. So while we're doing ok, it's my job to do something to help others that need help today. Who knows, maybe those people will be there to help me if I need it someday.
I would just encourage everyone who happens to read this to go out and make a difference in your world in the unique way that only you can do. Do something to make the world you live in better today!
