My husband, Tom, and I have been married for thirty years and we have two daughters, Jackie, 16 at Fossil Ridge High School and Dani, 14 at Kinard. We came to Fort Collins in 2001 following careers, but we always had plans to move to Colorado at some point in our lives because we love the beauty of the state, the weather and the lifestyle pace. I currently work at In-Situ as the Director, Inside Sales. Along with my colleague, Megan, we organized the first ever United Way campaign this past year at our company. Not only did we raise money for worthy causes, but we also had some fun doing it.
What are you passionate about?
Family is always my top priority and I take pride in watching my girls grow up to be smart, well rounded, independent young ladies who have big hearts and care about others. Outside of family, I am passionate about education, which probably stems from having a principal for a father and a teacher for a mother. I have spent more hours than I can count volunteering at schools and at the PSD level.
What do you love most about Larimer County?
I love Larimer county for all the same reasons I love Colorado, but I also appreciate how well run and effective Poudre School District is, especially with how underfunded they are. I admire PSD staff, but I also think I would be joining them in saying, PSD would not be as effective if it were not for the volunteer hours pumped into the school district. Giving your time is just as important as giving money.
How long have you been a United Way donor?
I am not sure. I think I have always donated since I started working a number of years ago.
Why do you choose to support your community through United Way?
Alzheimer's and veterans organizations are also near and dear to my heart, but I appreciate United Way because of how professional the organization is and how easy it is to make your donations through payroll deductions. My focus is education oriented and it makes me feel like I am making a small difference by earmarking my donations to something meaningful to me.
Thanks to Susanand thousands of other donors like her, we are creating opportunities for a better life for all people in Larimer County.
