I will graduate from Colorado State University in December 2014 with a Bachelors Degree in Social Work. After graduation, I hope to find employment working with the elderly or in hospice. I am also considering the Advanced Standing Masters Degree program for Social Work.
Social Work was not my original choice in majors. When I first started college, I pursued a couple different fields, but my studies got interrupted by life and needing to provide for my family. During that time, I got connected with Project Self-Sufficiency, a program that helps single parents become financially independent. Through Project Self-Sufficiency I received some recommendations and career guidance that suggested I pursue Social Work and it has been a good fit for me.
WomenGive has helped me a lot, especially this semester; I am completing my field practicum and that takes up a lot of my time. It is nice to know that my kids are safe and being well taken care of at their daycare. It has also been very meaningful to me that people want to keep in touch with me as a recipient. Instead of just giving me ascholarship and moving on, people care about how I'm doing and show an interest in my life.
Thanks to WomenGive Members and Supporters, women like Katherine are able to continue their education and better provide for their families. Click here to learn more about becoming a WomenGive Member. To learn more about receiving a scholarship, click here.
