Homeless is just what it sounds like, having no place to call home or no place of permanent residence. There are many common stereotypes associated with homelessness, but the truth is it can happen to just about anyone: a neighbor, a friend or family member, a co-worker or an employee at the frequented store. People are considered homeless if they are "staying with a friend", "couch surfing", on the street or camping. At 2-1-1, we hear from people everyday who have no place to go and a lot of the time, these are people who have families with small children and/or jobs. With limited access to internet and transportation, sometimes accessing the resources needed can be challenging, which is why the Loveland Homeless Connect is such a great resource.
The second annual Loveland Homeless Connect will be happening on Friday, October 25, 2013 from 8 a.m. until noon. It is being held at Truscott Elementary School, 211 W. 6th Street, Loveland, CO.
This is a one-stop-shop for resources and services available to individuals or families who are homeless or near homeless. Services include: auto repair, bike repair, books for children and adults, breakfast and lunch, bus passes, children's activities, counseling services, education assistance, employment specialists, eye exam information, food assistance, government services, haircuts, homeless gear, housing information, ID/legal services, mammogram information, medical screenings, overnight shelter information, pet services/food (pets welcome), taxpayer questions, toiletry packages and veterans services.
The Loveland Homeless Connect is sponsored by the City of Loveland, United Way of Larimer County, Perfect Square, Mueller & Associates, CPA, JD Consulting, Elevations Credit Union, B-B-Q Bob's, Hair Dynamics, Catering to You, Metric Motors and Starbucks.
