I have lived in Larimer County for 9.5 years.
I originally became involved with Generation United through my good friend Tricia Vincent. I was looking for a way to become more actively engaged with the Fort Collins community and meet other young professionals. I really liked the opportunity to get involved from the beginning as a Charter Member, as well as the authenticity of the program. For example, everything stays in Larimer County, whether it's the volunteer projects or the monetary donations. There is a tangible and visible impact that's hard to find these days.
The wonderful thing about giving back is that no matter how big or small, these actions can have a tremendous impact on someone else's life. It's important because it provides that sense of community and has the potential to add more voices for advocacy on different projects. In my opinion, it also instills a sense of citizenship for the community in which we live and work. I'm all about the buy-in of different organizations and causes and how they relate to Larimer County.
Engagement
The best advice definitely came from my parents, and it was all about the power of treating others with respect and kindness. As the Mark Twain quote goes, “Kindness is a language that the deaf can hear and the blind can see.”
Riding my horse, Razz, hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park, volunteering with Hearts and Horses Therapeutic Riding Center, football, friends, and warm chocolate chip cookies :-)
Snakes, laundry, bad drivers, dishonesty, and did I mention Snakes?
The Fort Collins/Loveland area is one of the greatest communities to live and work. Get out there and enjoy it!! Life is too short to have any regrets!
