On Wednesday, August 15, 2018 more than 300 student employees at Colorado State University Campus Recreation Department came together for a day of impact. Not only did they partake in their traditional orientation services, but they added in team and community interactions.
The CSU Campus Recreations Department aims to promote a balanced, healthy lifestyle for everyone and is deeply committed to living out one of their core values which is, community. Last April, Department staff reached out to United Way to coordinate a Service-to-Go project in which more 300 student employees could take part.
United Way of Larimer County’s Service-to-Go Volunteer Opportunities are ongoing, fun, Do-it-Yourself projects that can be completed anywhere, anytime. They can be implemented on-site at businesses, schools or homes, and they provide meaningful resources for individuals, families and children in need. United Way of Larimer County works with local nonprofits to identify ongoing needs in the community, and in turn, tailors projects to meet that need. Projects range from “thinking of you” cards for homebound citizens, to first aid kits and fleece scarves for homeless individuals, to alphabet flashcards and joke books for children staying at a local shelter.
The student employees were able to complete more 310 hygiene kits that were filled shampoo, conditioner, lotion, toothbrushes, toothpaste and much more. Many of the items they used to assemble the hygiene kits were donated from companies such as the Hilton Fort Collins and Delta Dental. The hygiene kits will be donated to various nonprofit organizations within Larimer County that work closely with the homeless population.
Thank you to all 300 student and 30 professional staff at the Department of Campus Recreation at Colorado State University! Your contribution will continue to make a difference and strengthen our community.
