At United Way of Larimer County, one of the core tenants of our work is Nonprofit Excellence. We believe that the nonprofit sector plays a vital role in creating and maintaining a resilient community and that donor dollars should be used to fund effective and efficient programs that show results. As part of our commitment to increasing nonprofit’s efficiency and capacity, United Way has hosted numerous trainings as part of its Nonprofit Excellence Series, including our most recent Executive Director Training in Loveland.
For this training, United Way brought in an outside nonprofit executive trainer, Maro Zagoras, to work closely with nine Loveland nonprofit executive directors who had expressed interest in small group professional training. Zagoras works nationally with high profile nonprofits and foundations and lives in Larimer County, making her uniquely positioned to apply national lessons and best practices to the local community.
Participants in the four-month course included the executive directors of the following organizations:
Zagoras led the group on topics including agency sustainability strategies, donor relations, nonprofit operation topics, staffing and Board management, providing participants with actionable strategies and tactics to implement at their organizations.
“[These trainings] were so helpful in creating stronger relationships between the executive directors of Loveland and brought greater understanding of what each organization has in common, and what differentiates,” said Glorie Magrum, Executive Director of House of Neighborly Service. “One thing became very apparent from these conversations and exercises – the lead of any organization is a weighty responsibility. I am grateful to have a deeper relationship with [my peers] and to know we can call upon one other for support and encouragement whenever we face a challenge.”
United Way is in the process of developing additional nonprofit trainings for the fall of 2019.
