Did you know that 211 is a free, confidential resource that was created to assist all members of our community?
February 11 is national 211 Day (2/11) and while many think of 211 as a resource for those seeking food or shelter, the scope of resources available through 211 is incredibly broad and designed to strengthen the entire community!
211 is here to help in a variety of ways, such as:
care for an aging parent
speech therapy for a preschooler
want to find a place to volunteer
information on food and nutrition programs
shelter and housing
employment and education opportunities
In Larimer County, over 4,000 people were connected via 211 through the toll-free number or the 211Colorado.org website in 2019 alone.
Ensuring we consistently have a comprehensive list of up-to-date resources is no small task! Our local 211 liaison is an integral member of our staff, distributing resource handouts to local nonprofits, providing the call center with new resources, and connecting nonprofits to volunteers and donated supplies.
In addition, your local 211 liaison supports community training on emergency preparedness and plays an integral role in times of natural disaster – helping to disseminate information on food and shelter, managing long-term recovery resources and fundraising to help those affected.
And finally, 211 also provides valuable resources that decrease costs and increase income. This includes:
Distribution of the FamilyWize prescription card that saved Larimer County residents $200,000 in 2019
Earned Income Tax Credit promotion, a tool proven to increase the financial stability of working families
Free tax preparation for households with an income of $69,000 or less through local VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) sites
No other program has its finger on the pulse of our community’s greatest needs quite like 211. It’s a vital part of United Way, providing real-time help to citizens and resources that increase financial stability for all.
This important community resource needs your support to continue to serve our community.
