Do you know someone who stands out because of their dedicated service to the community? Or an individual or group who continually gives their time and skills to make our community a better place to live, work, and play?
The Volunteer Hero Awards honor individuals or groups who have made a difference in Larimer County through their service in the areas of Education, Financial Stability, and Basic Needs.
All nominees will be recognized at United Way of Larimer County’s National Volunteer Month Celebration. The winner(s) from each category below will be honored at the National Volunteer Month Celebration and highlighted at the 2017 State of the Community event. Additionally, winners will be awarded $200 to give to the nonprofit organization of their choice within the award categories.

Education
The Education category recognizes an individual or group who has made Larimer County stronger by volunteering in ways that help youth succeed in school and life.
For example, do you know someone who mentors local youth, or helps children develop literacy skills? It could be someone who dedicates time to tutoring at-risk youth, volunteering in an early childhood classroom or who makes an effort to help kids stay on track to graduate and build brighter futures. It could also be someone who has raised public awareness of the importance of education.
Financial Stability
The Financial Stability category recognizes an individual or group who has made Larimer County stronger by volunteering in ways that help individuals and families become financially stable and self-sufficient.
For example, do you know someone who has volunteered to prepare taxes for low income families, or who has helped with adult financial education? It could be someone who helped individuals explore career paths and build job skills so they have a better chance at reaching self-sufficiency.
Basic Needs
The Basic Needs category recognizes an individual or group who has made Larimer County stronger by volunteering in ways that help individuals become more stable by addressing basic needs, including making a difference through disaster relief and recovery, and empowering seniors and individuals living with disabilities to live productive, healthy lives.
For example, do you know someone who has consistently provided food or shelter for those in need? It could be someone who led others in responding to a disaster, or someone who supported homebound seniors through the gift of companionship.
Corporate
The Corporate category recognizes a company that has made Larimer County stronger through innovation, collaboration, and leadership through volunteerism related to Education, Financial Stability, and Basic Needs.
For example, do you know a company that has increased efficiencies at a nonprofit, or who has implemented an innovative volunteer project to decrease poverty? It could be a business that has offered pro bono services to help a nonprofit fill a need or strengthen their programs, or a business that has led the way in impacting the community through corporate volunteerism.
The nominee’s achievements must demonstrate one or more of the following characteristics:
- Exemplified leadership
- Collaborative efforts
- Empowering others
- Uniting and mobilizing the community
- Innovative problem-solving
- Creating a lasting benefit
- Demonstrating a collective approach
