I'm Kathy Jack-Romero, President & Publisher of the Fort Collins Coloradoan. My husband and I moved here in 2005 to accept jobs at The Coloradoan. We rolled into town with 4 kids and a dog. Ten years later, I'm still at the Coloradoan, though my role has changed a few times, and we are now empty nesters and have our first grandchild. My husband left the Coloradoan about three years ago and is now the Publisher of the Estes Park Trail Gazette.
Women face unique challenges in the workplace, especially those looking for careers and advancement. I'm passionate about giving women the voice & confidence that they need to chase their dreams. Additionally, as a mom of four kids and a Nana, I want all Larimer County children to have a healthy, happy and enriched childhood experience in the hopes that they can pay that forward to more youth in our county. Finally, I a big supporter of juvenile diabetes research as this is a disease that my daughter has had since she was 12 years old.
I love my garden, cooking, home decorating and biking. I'm no longer a mountain bike girl - I prefer the paved trails that take me from one hidden gem to another. I'm also a big “foodie” so those bike rides are a necessity.
What is not to love? Larimer County has been an amazing place for us to raise our family and we call this place home. Our children - who are scattered in Kansas and Utah also want to end up back in Fort Collins.
I have supported United Way of Larimer Countysince I moved to the community in 2005 but I've been a long-time supporter of United Ways in all the communities that I've lived.
I think it's important to remind folks that while we live in one of the greatest communities in the country, not everything, nor everyone here has the same opportunities and views. As a business leader, it's important to me personally to gut check myself on that and to do the same for my team at the Coloradoan. My staff lives and works here like I do and we all care very much about making our community a better place for every single citizen.
I encourage folks to get out and learn more about the under-served, the impoverished and silent groups in our community. Serve. Volunteer. Support.
Thanks to Kathyand thousands of donors like her, we are creating opportunities for a better life for all people in Larimer County.
