Generation United Partner Update: Partners Mentoring Youth
Since July, Generation United dollars have helped sustain youth in Partners Mentoring Youth's Community Based Mentoring program. These youth have participated in activities such as a budgeting, life skills, a Thanksgiving activity where youth learned ways to say “thanks” to those in their lives, community service projects and numerous recreational activities.
Each youth has been fully supported through 24/7 case management by a Program Coordinator and spent at least 3 hour per week with their Senior Partner. These adult mentors provide key support to help youth navigate tough times and help provide them with new experiences. For example, Senior Partner Diane and her Junior Partner Jenny love participating in Partners activities; everything from Origami, to horseback riding, to community service projects. This, of course, doesn't even begin to touch on all the activities they do together. For Jenny, she enjoys getting out to experience new things, something she is not always able to do. Jenny talked about Diane during a recent review, saying “she's like family and I cannot imagine her not being around. She always supports me.”
Thanks to Generation United's membership dollars, Partners Mentoring Youth is able to provide monthly activities for their partnerships, like Diane and Jenny's.
