Groundwork for Housing and Homeless Issue Continues to Gain Momentum
United Way 2-1-1 of Larimer County provides a monthlySnapshotof what services people in our community are in need of. Since the beginning of the year, 2-1-1 hasreceived over800inquiries for help with housing related issues. TheColoradoan recently published an articleaddressing the problem which included resources that may help provide some relief. The groundwork for tackling the housing and homeless issue in Fort Collins continues to gain momentum.The City of Fort Collins has long identified affordable housing as a priority andofficials have spent the past several months meeting with various groups to discuss proposals to increase affordable housing.In the month of May, theCity hosted 2 Open House Sessions to receive public input on the issue of affordable housing.
On June 24th and 25th,Homeward 2020will be conducting their 2014 Point-in-Time Homeless Count. The Point-in-Time (PIT) provides local service providers, the city, and community at-large with valuable information about the current scope of homelessness. Homeward 2020 is a very specific initiative to end homelessness by the year 2020 in Fort Collins through a collaborative effort made up of support and leadership from the business, government, and non-profit sectors in the community.If you or anyone you know has a passion for Fort Collins and would consider volunteering for this project pleaseclick herefor more information.
