Hi There,

I’m Kelsey DiAstra, and I’m thrilled to connect with you as the new(ish) Vice President of Communications and Events at United Way of Larimer County. In my first few months at UWLC, I’ve delved deep into our team’s work, and I’m eager to share my learnings with you.

Over the next three months, I’ll highlight three key initiatives energizing me as we transition into our new fiscal year starting July 1. This month, we’re exploring how United Way of Larimer County is bridging the gap between service availability and accessibility.

After graduating from Bucknell University, I dedicated a year to serving with AmeriCorps at a Community Action Agency in rural Pennsylvania. During this time, I witnessed how logistical challenges can render vital services inaccessible to many. Collaborating closely with the local central Pennsylvania United Way, I worked with clients to overcome barriers to assistance—whether arranging transportation between agencies or navigating complex systems. These experiences have fueled my passion for ensuring that services are not only available but also accessible.

At United Way of Larimer County, we’re making significant strides with initiatives like the Loveland Youth Campus. The first floor houses Teaching Tree Early Childhood Learning Center and Boys & Girls Club of Larimer County, offering a continuum of care from early childhood through 12th grade.

Currently, two additional playgrounds and the second floor of the Loveland Youth Campus are under construction. Once complete, the second floor will provide wrap-around services for families, including mental health, literacy, and speech/language support, as well as office space for other local nonprofits. The campus will also offer fresh produce and emergency food bags for children. A bilingual resource navigator will be on-site to assist families with accessing child care scholarships, utilities, rent assistance, and more.

This initiative is about more than just providing services; it’s about fostering a supportive community where every family can access what they need to thrive.

From my early days with AmeriCorps to my current role at United Way, this work feels like coming full circle. Instead of piecemeal solutions, I now have the privilege of contributing to lasting community anchors—and that’s truly invigorating.

I look forward to sharing more insights with you next month when we delve into some remarkable child care facts!
